Foundations in Managing Conflict (BC=1 hour)

Conflict. Sometimes just the word can make us feel a bit anxious. However, conflict can foster creativity, improve communication, and strengthen relationships when handled effectively. Through interactive activities, discussions, and practical exercises, participants will be able to:
- Recognize different approaches to conflict and determine when each style is appropriate
- Distinguish between positions and interests and identify common interests
- Apply conflict resolution techniques to uncover interests

Alan Canfora was one of nine students wounded on May 4, 1970, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on Kent State students during an anti-war protest on campus. Explore Canfora鈥檚 incredible collection of materials documenting his lifelong commitment to activism, advocacy and remembrance of those wounded and killed on May 4, 1970, including the large part he played in the May 4 Task Force (M4TF).

Before senior Sophie Swengel stepped foot on Kent State鈥檚 campus, she had reached out to students who were doing work to commemorate May 4. So early on in her first year, Swengel became immersed in work for the May 4 Task Force because she had always felt a deep connection to history.
