Faculty and Alumni Bring Professional Excellence to Cleveland Play House’s “Fiddler on the Roof”

Celebrating Professional Achievements and Local Opportunities in Theatre and Design

The School of Theatre and Dance is proud to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our faculty and alumni, who are lending their talents to the production of at the world-renowned , May 2 - 25.

Among the faculty, associate professor of acting and musical theatre, Amy Fritsche brings her dynamic presence to the stage as Fruma-Sarah in “Fiddler on the Roof.” This summer, Fritsche will also take on the role of director of Porthouse Theatre’s production of “You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

Designing the costumes for “Fiddler on the Roof” is Suwatana “Pla” Rockland, a proud alumna and former adjunct professor. Rockland designed the vivid, period-authentic costumes for the production at Cleveland Play House and will continue to lend her skills as costume designer for Porthouse Theatre’s upcoming production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”

Behind the scenes, Kim Gapinski, a theatre technology and design undergraduate student, serves as the wig tech/dresser for the production. Her work highlights the vital contributions of our technical theatre graduates to major professional stages. Adding to the School of Theatre and Dance’s strong representation, Michael Glavan, a musical theatre alumnus, takes the stage as Fyedka/Chorus in the production, showcasing his talent cultivated through his time at Kent State.

This collaboration at the Cleveland Play House demonstrates the unique professional opportunities available right in our backyard. It also highlights the strong connection between the School of Theatre and Dance and Porthouse Theatre, where many students, faculty and alumni continue to create, perform and hone their craft in professional settings.

We celebrate these talented artists and educators, who exemplify the excellence, versatility and leadership nurtured through our program. Their success is a testament to the ongoing impact of the School of Theatre and Dance on the national and local theatre community.
